Newgrounds.com Launches Site Redesign

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 18, 2007 -- Newgrounds.com, long recognized as a leading site for Flash animations and games online, announced the launch of their highly anticipated redesign today. Featuring artist pages, cutting-edge Flash-based audio visualization, and a completely revamped user interface, the site has been redesigned with the dual purpose of better showcasing artist creations and making the site more enjoyable for fans.

"Newgrounds has been growing organically for the past decade and ultimately became a bit disorganized," stated CEO and founder Tom Fulp. "We decided it was time to re-imagine what the site could be, based on how the community had shaped its growth."

The result? A more streamlined user experience for all visitors to the site: fewer distractions, more consistency across all pages, and blazing speeds for page loads thanks to a new commitment to web design standards.

"We recoded every page using valid XHTML and CSS, and took the opportunity to rebuild our core systems from the ground up," Fulp stated. "Not only does it make the site that much faster, but it gives us greater flexibility when implementing new features in the future and reduces the time it takes to bring those features to the community."

New site features include:

* personal user pages, replete with a blogging system built from scratch by the same programming team that created the time-tested Newgrounds forums -- now the largest, most feature-rich, fully valid XHTML forums of their kind;

* cutting-edge Flash-based audio visualization, which takes advantage of the ActionScript 3.0 language used in Adobe Flash 9 to detect song beats and set them to dynamic imagery, some of which incorporates characters from the site;

* site-wide AJAX-based form elements, designed to enhance the user experience by providing instant feedback.

In addition to the new features, great attention was paid to the overall aesthetic as well. Over two million movies and games will be viewed every day in a new, sleeker, in-page content viewer.

"A perfect example of the artist-centric redesign is in how we present the content itself," Fulp stated. "We found that by temporarily disabling extraneous animations and dimming all other content, we could load the featured animations without requiring the users to leave the page. It places the focus squarely on the games and movies where it belongs."

While the focus is on the artists, all features are available to every user on the site free of charge, whether they aspire to be artists themselves or are simply fans.

"Newgrounds has always been about great people doing great things, and we think these new features will help artists -- and fans -- showcase themselves like never before," Fulp said. "We always assumed someone else would build a better version of Newgrounds; we're just glad we were able to beat them to the punch."
